Hannah Sleeps Out for Homelessness

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

Swapping salon and business management for a cold night in a sleeping bag, alongside some of MK’s other prominent CEOs and business leaders: to reach out and help some of the most vulnerable in society.

This November, Hannah Klewpatinond – founder and owner of HK Hair and Wellness – will be joining fellow Milton Keynes business leaders and execs to fight homelessness, spending a night outdoors to experience what thousands are facing every night across the country.

The Shelter England charity has recently published a list of the areas outside of London with the highest rates of people who meet the homelessness criteria of living in temporary accommodation or sleeping on the streets in 2022 – and Milton Keynes ranked sixth on the list. There’s an estimated 2,336 people homeless and living in temporary accommodation here.

So MK is taking part in the national CEO SleepOut initiative to raise awareness – and funds – to support the work of a raft of homelessness charities, getting people off the streets and into safety. The SleepOuts take place in cities across the country, and MK’s is happening on 16 November. Hannah is apprehensive, but looking forward to making a big difference!

“I will be spending the night outdoors in Bletchley, alongside my peers, from 8pm - 6am, to raise funds for people who need it most. It will be cold and uncomfortable but definitely worth it... and together we could help change somebody's life.

“We’re giving everyone who donates a chance to win with HK Hair and Wellness, too – every £5 donated through my JustGiving page will be issued with a ticket number and will be entered into a prize draw. The draw will take place on Wednesday 29th November during our Christmas Sparkle Event within HK Hair & Wellness- all information can be found on our website “What’s On” Page! Donate to a fantastic cause, and be in with a chance to treat yourself too!”

Actively Welcoming Everyone

Hannah dedicates her professional time to making a difference in the hair and beauty world, as well. She set up HK Hair and Wellness with the aim of providing everyone with access to a full range of salon services, as a sustainable, inclusive and accessible salon. It’s an environment that Hannah has designed to welcome absolutely everyone – especially those who have struggled to access a salon before, due to disability, gender, faith or any other factor that has closed doors to them in the past.

The salon works actively with local charities and organisations to welcome anyone who wants to book in – making provisions like wheelchair-friendly basins, and private consultation and treatment rooms.

“I have always been passionate about providing a service that is supportive, safe, inclusive, and accessible for everyone. Regardless of gender, sexuality, age, faith, disability or accessibility needs, we are proud to offer services that are suitable for all. Simply put, anyone who wants to visit or work with HK Hair and Wellness, or attend one of our partners’ events within our space, can do so with dignity and respect, and without fear.

Being kind to the planet is also at the heart of Hannah’s HK Hair and Wellness values. “I’m also passionate about sustainability, and making sure that everything we do either helps or doesn’t harm our planet – and our sustainable values have just won us an SME Silver Award!”

HK Hair and Wellness is located at Furtho Manor Farm, in beautiful countryside with plenty of accessible parking, and only 11 minutes’ drive from MK City Centre.
